I've read the archives that sing the praises of the Bentley manual. However, I can't find a Bentley that covers my 1980 DL. Anyone have an extra to sell? If so, please give me your e-mail address.

Getting the entire set, covers all types for that year and all parts and sub-systems, is prohibitive in cost $2,500 +/-.
Get just a few - those for the engine and the Wiring diagrams, maybe the Specifications and the body, too.
New, call Ken Cook Publishing at 1-800-25-VOLVO. They might have an Owner's Manual, too - assuming you didn't get one with the car.
Used - prowl eBay and the classifieds in "Rolling". I have done well there. Got an almost complete set for my 1988 240 from a VCOA member who had sold the car. Cost under $50.
Good Luck,
Bob

I have an '80 245DL, and I wondered about the Bentley as you do.
I picked one up from the local library to check out. Most of the info is the same. Mechanically, it's mostly the same. I used the book to help me when changing my brake rotors.
Anything that has to do with the Dash is completely different however.
Pick up a green Haynes for that.
I'm going to pick up a Bentley anyway. It is very useful.

Aside from checking Ebay, you can check out amazon.com- sometimes you can find pretty good deals there. These mauals go for about $50 new, and $30 for a nice used is considered a deal, but you might get lucky.

I don't think there is much different between your '80 and what the Bentley manual covers. Your K-jet FI is pretty well-covered under the "CI System - Turbo" section.
Even the Bentley's '83 wiring diagram shows the K-jet Lambda wiring and components, etc. — and looks virtually identical to the '80 UK 240 diagram in the early (1974-990) Haynes. The later Haynes (1976-1993) has only one diagram for "1980 through 1983". So I'm sure the Bentley would meet your needs OK.
To me, the Bentley's organization, figures, figure-referencing, and indexing make it well worth the price. My Haynes manuals have had no real use in years (except to occasionally look for something and find it's not there either).

eeuroparts.com sells it for $30.90. Since they ship free for orders over $39, add enough to hit that mark, and you get the manual plus extras for less than $40, shipping included.
Not that I'm saying it's a bad idea to join the VCOA, not at all. Just trying to point out the best buy I've found.
It's unfortunate that Bentley doesn't offer a manual that specifically covers the earlier 240s, but the one they do offer still has plenty of useful information.

It's unfortunate that Bentley doesn't offer a manual that specifically covers the earlier 240s...
I may be way off on this, but my gut feel is that a Bentley manual just for what is unique to the '76 - '82 240s would only run to 25 or 30 pages, given what's is in the existing book. (Guess I should have just said that!)
But your tip on the eeuro price is really good. Hope it encourages a few Bentley sales, as I believe it can save folks a lot of grief, based onmany of the posts I've seen here.
Thanks for your reply,

I don't think that there is a Bentley manual for that year. I'm sure that some of the more general info in the 1983-1993 manual is applicable to the 1980 model, and there is a section devoted to the B21 engine (albeit the turbo variety of that engine). If you want more detail than the Haynes manual provides and more year-specific info than the Bentley provides, check out the Volvo "green" manuals. You can find them on eBay sometimes. They don't usually come cheap, though.
Good luck,
Keith
