Excellent idea for emergency kit 200

Here's something to keep in your map pockets (if you still have them) or your glovebox (which is probably already too full if you don't have map pockets): a disposable camera, a little chemical snap light, and a clearly written card with emergency information - roadside assistance #s, insurance information, etc. Laminate this card and put it with the camera and light in one of those plastic FedEx type bags that seal shut.

Assuming you're not badly injured, for insurance purposes it's a good idea to snap as many pictures as you can of everything on the accident scene - the damage to your car from different angles, the damage to the other car, skidmarks, the whole intersection, etc.

I think it's better to put this stuff in the passenger compartment than the trunk because of the real possibility that you won't be able to open the trunk in an emergency.

Excellent idea for emergency kit 200

My Auto Insurance agent sends out a new camera every 6 months (Dec/July).

He suggests using the old one for holiday pix...

The wrapper is an accident report form with a prepaid mailer to his office.

"Just shoot/write/mail and your butt is covered" is his motto...

Excellent idea for emergency kit 200

It's a good idea, except the film in the disposable camera will degrade with the summer heat. At best, it'd eventually end up with bad color shift, at worst, you'd get no pictures at all. You wouldn't know till you had the film developed.

Other than that, good suggestions. I also just picked up a battery powered emergency beacon type light that has a folding tripod base to stand it up on the ground, and a heavy magnet so it will stick to the metal on the car. It has a top-mounted yellow light, and a constant on and a flashing setting. It's small enough to easily stow, and I found a pile of them at the local closeout store for 2 bucks apiece.
