Hi,

The ignition key to my 740 turbo broke tonight (thankfully not in the ignition or in any of the locks). I'm not the original owner, so I don't have the code for a replacement.

Will any Volvo dealer give me a new key on the spot?

Question on price of key

The Manhattan dealer says it will cost $40 to cut a new key. I'm a captive audience on this one because I need the key quickly.

Is this the standard price that Volvo dealers charge, or could I get a better price for a second key if I went to a dealer in the burbs?

Take proof of ownership with you, many will not cut a key without it. All of them should require it, but some don't. One of the TV news shows did an investigation and was able to obtain keys to cars they did not own. Lots of cars supposedly stolen this way.

Thanks. I assumed most dealers won't cut keys without proof of ownership. Scary that some will!

Yes. Visit any dealer. They will run your VIN on the computer and retrieve the key code, then cut you a key.
