removing tie rod ends

Do I need to support the tie rod end anywhere before I whack it loose? Do I whack or unscrew first? gracias -

Some people have had luck with unscrewing the nut to the top of the bolt, then holding a two pound hand sledge against one side of the knuckle and hitting the other side of the knuckle with a ball peen hammer.

I use a small two/three jaw gear puller to press the tie rod ends out. It works great.

I've had good results with a propane tourch. Back the nut off until it's flush with the top of the threads and apply heat to the knuckle. Be careful of the rubber boot. Generally a tap will do it.

I would losten the nut while the end is on the hub, then undo the end, whack the hub and the end will come loose, and uncrew it.
