seat heater effectiveness 200 1988

How warm should I expect the seat heaters to get? On nippy mornings (well, nippy for here!) things get lukewarm but not toasty. OTOH, the steering wheel is so cold it's hard to touch!

Hey Dave-

If you really want to test your seat heater, you should visit your friend on Peak's Island in FEBRUARY next time!

"...the steering wheel is so cold it's hard to touch!" -Try driving 3 Maine winters in a Dodge Dart with a blown heater-core and a metal horn ring! That's hard to touch! Good illustration of the "tongue on the flagpole" principle.

Matt

How do you even know if its working?
I have 1980 DL and apparently it has a heated driver's seat. (thats what the guy at Volvo said)
I can never tell if its on or not.

My son actually removed the heater elements in his 81GL - they made the seat too uncomfortable. And we get a real winter in this part of CA. If you have leather seats and find them a little crisp in the mornings (really? in Santa Cruz?), it would probably be less trouble to get good sheepskin seat cover(s).

When I changed the seat foam in my seat, I completely took out my heat seats because They looked like a serious fire hazard, some of the wires were broken and the frame of the seat heat was broken. But that's beside the point, if you want a heat seat that works very effectively, you might as well go to IPD's website and order a new one. They are not hard to replace. The hardest thing is that you just need to take off the seat cover and then put it back on. Even though mine was in such bad shape, it still was very warm, so I'm thinking that's what you need to do.
