Post-'93 double-din radio in a 1992 960? 900 1992

The 1992 965 spousemobile has a nice CR 814 with a dead CD changer back under the rear deck. Rather than screw around with replacing the changer, I'm thinking about installing an SC 815 or 816. However, I get the impression that in addition to wiring, which will not really be a problem, there may be some mounting or spatial contra-indications. Has anybody tried this? Suggestions? reservations about either model?
Thanks.

I have a 1992 960 with a CR 814 with no CD changer and a broken cassette mechanism. I am also interested in a response to your question.

I pulled out the radio far enough to feel around behind and below; there appears to be enough space for a double-din radio, but the side walls of the console do not have the same radio hanger rails as the later models, and there is a molded plastic lip which would have to be removed. That's all I can tell at the moment (recent neck surgery prevents my really getting in there). If you are near a decent PNP, it might be worth pulling the whole console out of a later 940 or 960, to see if it's worth swapping the entire unit in order to change radios.
