Front Brakes for a 1975 164E ??? 140-160 1975

Hi. I'm planning a brake system overhaul on a '75 164 that I recently acquired. But I'm rather confused by which parts are suitable for my project (i.e., replacing rotors, calipers and the flexible brake lines) for the front (the rears seem to be standard 240 ATE parts). Of course, I'd really like to upgrade -- e.g., larger than stock calipers (swept area), Ate PowerDisk rotors, etc., but at this point I'd settle for OEM.

Between the Volvo-published "Quick Reference Parts Catalog" (QRPC), and from discussions in earlier postings on this list, there seems to be a difference in opinion on what will correctly fit on my car. For example:
1) Regarding front rotors, the QRPC says that the front rotors (# 270735-4) covers '72 to '75 years.
2) Regarding the calipers, the QRPC says that my front calipers are Girling, and are (R/L#s 5002019-7 and 5002018-9), as the rotors, the same for 1972 to 1975.

Yet (and this is the question) I have read that the rotors on the '75 (vented, by the way) are different than from earlier models, as are the calipers (something about the threads of the brake lines being different in 1975 than in earlier calipers).

I'd really welcome some comment and advice on this, before I go trying to purchase these parts. Perhaps I misread something? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, all.

Over in the US you've got a number of options for suppliers, but here in NZ they only know the 240 and up. But I've found the guys at www.scandcar.com to know their stuff really well, and they are now so friendly that they'll send me emergency parts even before I've paid. And they know exactly what fits where.

For a complete parts catalogue, go to www.gcp.se and download the individual pages off the catalogue page. Just right-click and select "save picture as". It takes a while as you've got to do it page for page, but you will quickly figure out the file naming convention and can then use GetRight to simplify the process (by copy, paste, edit the URL). I've done the 140 catalogue, and find it extremely useful. It includes when what was changed, VIN decoding info, etc.

And one more thing .... :-) 140-160 1975

Hi, again. And one more thing: Why does the IPD product listings limit their listings of 164 brake parts (e.g., Braided Brake Lines, #VB5204) to 1974? Why not indicate that 1975 is covered, too (unless perhaps it's true that they won't fit the 1975 calipers because its brake lines have different threads)?
Thanks again, folks.

I'm sure that Shayne or Cameron at IPD will be glad to talk to you about
this issue. I have a little inside info but am not free to share it.

As far as going to bigger brakes, the ones you have are magnificent.

I remember a long conversation about the discontinued 140 series brakelines; which I did offer to sell to you in the end.

164 brakeline kits have been, and are still, available. Temporarily out of stock right now, though.

Best,

Cameron
