dome light 200 1990

Hey folks,

this list is addictive-good information.

anyhow, can someone explain how i can get the dome light to work when i open my front driver's door? the light itself works, just not when i open my door. the other doors, when open, trigger the light on. there's a little black spring/switch in the door panel that i can press-i assume there is something attached to that...any help would be most appreciated.

Bad door switch. My used '90 had this problem on ALL the doors when I bought it. I was able to clean and revive several switches but had to replace the others.

(The older style switches appear to be more robust.)

If/when you remove the door switches, don't yank on the wires. They're short, and tend to pop off the switches and then disappear behind the door jambs. Can be a pain in the ass to retrieve.

Also, keep in mind that the door switches function by completeing the ground path. They do this through the mounting screw, which also acts as a ground connection. Be sure that the screw and hole in the jamb are free of rust and corrosion. Use a dab of grease in the jamb hole and under the screw to prevent further corrosion.
