Headlights 200

I'm looking at replacing the headlights in my '87 245. Any recommendations? I'm interested in these new Sylvania SilverStar lights. Has any one tried these yet?

Thanks

I've put them in my 940 and an '88 240. They do give a better light than the standard bulbs without having that blue glare that I hate. They seem a little overpriced but I'm happy with the results. Not a miracle light though. Those plastic lenses are poor and can rob you of light from even the best bulbs. If your's are cloudy and yellow, try polishing the plastic to remove the cloudyness and then add the Silverstars.

Yeah, my lenses are in dire need of polishing. I'm really not too hot on the price of the SilverStars, have you used the CoolBlue's before? Do they put out more light than the regular yellow halogens?

No, I haven't used the blue lights. If your lenses a badly yellowed, no bulb will give you the light you need. I polished the lenses on an '86 240 with pretty good results. If you try a search on polishing lenses in this site, you'll get lots of advice on how to do it. The other option is to replace just the lenses with new ones. If you have the lenses off, NEVER touch the silvered reflector!!! Don't ask me how I learned this.

I polished the headlamps today. Look MUCH better. Used a microfinishing/polishing compound from 3M. After doing this I realized that the lights were poorly aligned. High Beams looked a lot better after polishing. Low's will probably be better after an alignment. Thanks for the advice. If they look better after being aligned I might just keep the current lights in.

Thanks Again

Rob K
