get the wires, without destroying them, into the shift knob for 4+tronicOD. i was thinking of installing a two way switch, on the dash somewhere, that lights up when overdrive is selected. you know your on the highway, your with your girl or boy. you flick the switch, and your girl or boy, "Says what's dat?" in the coolest voice know to man you reply, "OVERDRIVE!"
well i am going to shovel off the deck, still haven't taken care of that since the storm last weekend, cant see my recycle bin!

Maybe instead of (or in addition to) the little light, which isn't very impressive, you could hook the button up to a hidden tape that would play a "turbine" sound effect, a la "Knight Rider"...assuming you're old enough to remember that TV show, that is...

Is the M-46 in your car not original equipment? The reason I ask is that my car does have a light for the OD in the cluster. I don't know how visible it is from the passenger side (you know, for the whole "cool" effect). My wife has never asked about it, but then again, she is not too terribly impressed by my Volvo nerdiness. :)

The OD light comes on when you take the transmission out of overdrive. I think this is the opposite of what he's looking for.

That's not what happens in my car. The light comes on when the car is in overdrive. Why would the OD light come on when then car is not in OD? Maybe something is wired backwards in your car?

I'm thinking your car is a stick-shift, right? Kevin's is most likely an auto. In my '84 DL auto, OD was default- when you flicked the button, a light came on- the light says "OD OFF" So I'm guessing it's the other way 'round for the manual models...?

Ahhh...that is the point of confusion. I do have a stick. Come to think of it, my wife's focus has a OD off switch and corresponding light.

Take care,
Keith
