T-Bar/Starter 200 1983

Hello,
when I go to start the car sometimes I just get a loud click from the starter motor. I move the car a bit ,then turn the ignition and the car starts ok. Is this just the pinion not engaging with the ring gear. Is the starter motor about to give out? Also shifting gears on the t-bar auto is getting harder. Like I have to push the button further down on the t-bar to actually shift from park to drive etc. Any advice would be appreciated-thanks

Hi

There should be a "service connector" in your engine room. By connecting this directly to the battery you are able to activate the solenoid and starter directly, bypassing the ignition key and the safety switch at the bottom of shifter stick, if auto tranny. The service connector is just a female small two-pole connector and is often found pushed in under the cables running along the upper side of engine room. Try find a Volvo booklet on wiring if you have difficulties locating the connector.

If easy start at service connector, you most likely, but not necessarily, have a voltage drop somewhere in the keylock-safety switch part of the circuit. Continue by bypassing each of these if case as mentioned.
