How much does an AW71 trans weigh? 700 1991

How much does an AW71 transmission weigh? I am looking at purchasing a transmission jack from Harbor Freight that can hold a max of 450 lbs. I am pretty sure that will do it, but want to make sure! Thanks.

Very close to 150 pounds with the torque convertor. I have shipped two by UPS (weight limit 150 pounds). I can't quite get the package, transmission, and torque convertor to weigh under 150 pounds. So, after buliding a shipping box for the transmission, I ship the torque convertor separately.

I have the harbor freight trans jack and have used it on 240 and 740 transmissions - no problems. Of course you still have to be careful when using any type of jack. Wish I had bought this one years ago as I had previously put in transmissions with just a regular floor jack - bad idea! You can drop them -and I did several times!

Darius,

I used a Harbor Freight tranny jack to remove an old AW71 and replace it with a new (used) box. Worked pretty well. I drove it up and down with an air wrench but a good 1/2" drive ratchet will work. Not a bad tool. I paid $50 for mine. I've found it useful in rear axle removal and replacement. It will easily handle the weight of an AW.

It's a lot, but nowhere near 450lb...
