Motormount replacement, thought it was source of 'squeek' WITH PHOTOS 200 1988

All,

My 240 has been making what can be best described as a squeek noise for a few months now. It doesn't sound like metal on metal, more like rubber. A lot like the sound that rally (WRC) cars make when driving through a tight turn if that helps. Also, the sound is noticable only (mostly?) when on the accelerator.

I've heard the same noise from my previous 240 so I'm assuming that it's a common issue. Never fixed the other car before it tossed the tranny.

So my guess was that it was the motor mounts. Took a quick look from above and the mounts looked a little oily and such. So I went ahead and order new ones.

Well, took the drivers side mount off since the sound kinda seems to come from that side more than the other, and it looks great. Rubber is solid and there's not much play.

The passenger side (under the oil filter) looks even better. So good that I don't really want to take it off.

I've included some photos I took of both of them and wanted to know what the brickboard's opinion was of what the problem may be since the motor mounts look fine.

I'd really like to know you folks opinions on what the problem could be. I guess that I need to check the tranny mount too.

/Kevin

The mount in pick #2 appears to have rust coming out of the base. This could suggest that mount is loose and fretting on the bracket. that could cause your squeak.

Colin.

Nice shots... 1-3 show a area which seems too clean.. Might just be the pic..

The rear bushings on the front controll arm might be suspect, as the rpm goes up when you demand power the front end rises some, so if those bushings happen to be bad, going in a straight line can cause them to groan. You didn't take a pic of them ;)

What happens if you and a husky friend lift and push down on the front bumper?

Also have a look at all the torsion bar mounts... Mac
