One cylinder injector problem 200 1986

1986 244 GL 192K

I believe I have isolated an intermittant problem I am having to #3 injector. In an attempt to isolate where the problem is I want to install jumper wires from #2 injector to #3 injector to see if the problem lies in the electrical impulse or the injector itself. Is this a reasonable method (jumpering)? I am under the impression that all of the injectors fire at the same time in the LH system so where you get the impulse doesn't matter; safe assumption? The boots on the injector plugs are in bad shape and the connections at the injectors were slightly corroded (but clean now). I'm thinking it might have wiring harness issues.

I would like to connect an LED to the injector plug but have found that one that is connected will flash a couple of times and die. Obviously I know nothing about LED's, but I am assuming even though the LED is rated for 12v the amperage is too great and blowing the LED. I posted yesterday about connecting an LED without any luck.

Jumpering 2 injector to 3 injector OK? As always, thanks.

Randy

Randy:

I believe a single output from the ECU fires all the injectors simultaneously. If indeed this is true, there should be continuity between all the pulse inputs to the injectors; in other words, you could verify the harness by connecting an ohmmeter between the positive wire connections on any two injectors and it should read a short (or between the ground connections on any two injectors also).

As for the LEDs, you should try putting a resistor in series with the LED, in order to limit the current passing through it. Try a 1k resistor for starters; reduce it in value if you don't get enough brightness.

Thanks David, I hadn't thought of checking for continuity on the positive leads; I'll try that.

Randy
