A 1987 B230FT has the weaker connecting rods, and the smaller crankshaft. In my opinion a B21FT is s fine engine, but it doesn't offer any advantages over the later B230FT motors, especially those with piston oil cooling.

From the interior pictures, the car is a 1988 or earlier model.

If you are going to build an engine for it, you should start with one that has the 13mm connecting rods. The original engine in your car had 9mm connecting rods. If it is a 1988 model, it may be a K block motor and have the beefier crankshaft.

Okay, I'm having the mixed feelings of happiness that another fine Volvo is in good hands, and jealousy because I can't seem to find a deal like that. I mean the armrest/cupholder itself is worth half of what you paid for the whole car.......

I would have bought a 945 but a 1990 745 came up for £800 GBP ($1400 USD), so it had to be bought.
