Eaton locking differential swap 700

I bought an Eaton ALD on ebay, that seems to be from a 960 with IRS (it comes with the differential case). I would like to install this into my 85 740, but I im afraid that the acctual internals are of a different size. I think its possible that it would fit, as the 1041 axle in the later 740s would house an Eaton unit, I am unsure as to wether or not it is the same unit.

THanks in advance for the help!

I don't care to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't believe that you can use any of the components from the 960 locker on a 700/900 live axle.

Last summer I removed a 1041 Eaton locking rear end from a 940T. My son just installed it in his 1984 760T, and it has done a fine job in the snow and ice which we have now. Today I will try to find another ABS signal convertor to make the speedometer in his car work. ABS rear ends have a 96 tooth pulse wheel (also called a tone ring), while non-ABS rear ends have a 12 slot pulse wheel.

The TrueTrac I have in my 1987 745T is a great installation. You might try one of those.
