419 Scams on the Brickboard?

Hey, folks. I'm selling my 90 765T, and I posted an ad to that effect on the Brickboard's classified page.

I was contacted today by someone in the UK, "very interested."

I'm suspicious. I know of the Nigerian car scams thanks to thesamba.com (VW only), but I've never seen mention of it here for Brick owners.

Has anyone else experienced this here? If so, we need to get the admin folks to post a scam warning similiar to: http://www.thesambaforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=253

... so folks are less likely to get ripped off.

Cheers,

Justin Smith

pay pal works in every country....
if they pay for shipping and the car, where is the room for them to 'scam'?
Some of the easiest car transactions I've seen have gone to england. What could be easier than driving to Port of Oakland , and parking the car at happy customers container/shipper? He wait still he has 5 or 6 rare(in england) cars, and put the container on a boat.

Somebody in the UK? Yeah, right: why would they be interested in a car in Georgia?

Don't respond.

If it's really a scam, it will go like this:

You: "I want $5000 for my car."

Them: "OK, the check is in the mail."

You receive a check for $30,000, and say: "You sent too much."

Them: "Oh, sorry, our bookkeeper made a mistake. Deposit our check and send us a check for $25,000."

You: "OK, the check is in the mail."

====================

You send them a good check, and....

Surprise, surprise, three weeks later you discover that their "banque cheque" is fraudulent.

Do you live in a stucco house? You should, because you'll be the stuckee.

Whether or not they take the car at this point is irrelevant.

Soooo......

If you go for it, insist that the payment be made to your bank by another bank. DO NOT ACCEPT A CHECK UNLESS IT'S A BANKER'S CHECK FROM A BANK TELLER.
