89 240 Thumping Sound on Highway 200

My 1989 240 with 177000 miles has a strange thumping sound on the highway. When I let off of the accelerator the thumping starts. Its a thump thump thump and you can feel it on the floor with your foot. The car is in allignment and tracks straight on the road but this thumping sound is driving me crazy. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a U-joint going bad to me.

If it only does it on let off, I'd look at the driveshaft carrier bearing/mount, motor or trans mounts. Other possibles are exhaust pipe flop or rear bushing on the control arm. Normally, floor thumps say control arm bushing to me.
