Main fuel pump doesn't come on until engine is running...

1986 740 GLE, B230 F

From everything that I've read, the main pump should come on for a few seconds as the key is turned. Mine doesn't. Is it supposed to?

My relay clicks twice as it should. The fuse is ok. The pump works.

Thanks in advance

Some may argue, but I think your pump "symptom" is normal for an '87 with LH 2.2 injection. (Some do, some don't. My '86 never did.)

My '93 940 has Regina FI (with much in common with LH 2.4) and does "buzz" the pumps for a second with Key ON, before cranking.

So my hunch is that the Key On Buzz came in with LH 2.4, which would be '89 for the 240s. Just a hunch.

I agree. Everything that I read said it should buzz. But I never thought that was right. Now I'm convinced that the 2.2 cars don't start the pump until ignition.
