can't hear fuel pump, or feel it vibrating. 700 1989

Car won't start. I have the fuel pump relay cover off, and can see it and hear it clicking. When I have someone try starting the car, I can't feel any vibrations or hear the fuel pump. I can hear the in-tank fuel pump.

I've tried disconnecting the AMM, still no start. I've swapped in a different radio suppression relay (the one on the car is new.

Fuses look good.

Sound like the fuel pump is dead? for the previous day or so, I've heard a vibrating rumble, sort of like the heater fan, from inside the car. It wasn't the heater fan, but it sounded louder when I had my ear to the floorboard. Was this the fuel pump on its last legs?

Onlly other problem the car has had is the ignition swithc kind of sticks.

Any advice? any other simple tests i can run before ordering a new fuel pump?

thanks

-Bruce

Related question with my '88 745t 700 1989

Let me piggyback on this thread and ask related question. I don't hear my fuel pump(s) running when before the engine starts and the key is in the on position. Shouldn't they run, build up pressure, then shut off till the engine starts?

After I start the engine I can reach under the car and feel the fuel line surging with the pump.

I've wondered if this is why mine starts sluggishly. It cranks for a moment then casually builds up rpm over a couple of seconds till it's idling regularly.

My Volvo 850, Nissan, Ford, Dodge and any other FI car I've had runs the pump first, cranks a few turns then instantly starts and runs at idle.

Thanks,

Recent 200 no start was bad wiring at the fuel pump...
crawl under, with a 12v light to check,
while there inspect the connections...mine were trash

Lucid supplied the following which would have saved me some time
the fuses are different on a 700 but the idea should still hold

the car seems like it want to fire up, but just won't. Kind of stumbles like its about to start.

If the fuel pum was compltely bad, It woudln't even give any sign of starting, correct?

thanks in advance for any advice.

Go under the car and pull the yellow wire(positive) on the fuel
pump. Let someone crank while you check for power on the yellow wire.
if there is power replace your fuel pump. Good luck.
