creaky suspension 900 1995

My 95 945's suspension creaks, especially the rear and always with a transfer of weight, such as turning a corner and stopping and starting. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

The adapter brackets on the body where the rear suspension sub-frame mounts may have losened. I was able to reduce some noises on my car by tightening the bolts that hold these brackes to the body.

I have done this twice as they seem to loosen for some reason. Too bad they weren't welded in place.

Dear jbowers,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Where exactly are these bolts? If you start at some easy to identify part (rear wheel or rear end) and go step-by-step, that would be great. Are the adapter brackets common to sedans and wagons, or only found on one body type?

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Yours faithfully,

I'm fairly sure that my '96 965 is the same as any other '95 or later 960 with the Multi-link II rear suspension.

The big aluminum sub frame is attached to the body at 4 major places with isolaors. They are easily seen once the the car is on jack stands and the wheels are off. At the body, the isolators attach to brackets/adapters that are bolted solidly in the outer "frame" areas. There are many bolts holding these brackets to the body and they seem to loosen.

You will probably need a good 1/2" drive ratchet, sockets, (13mm,14mm 15mm etc.), and extensions to get at them all. Just turn all of them up tight.

Dear Derhammer,

May this find you well. If is also "creaks" when going over bumps, I suspect that the shock absorber mounting bolts are a little loose.

They may be accessed by removing the rear wheels. You will see in the 12 o'clock position, a round black rubber plug. If you pry this out, with the tip of a screwdriver - taking care not to tear the rubber - you will see the bolt head. I believe that if you tighten each bolt, the problem will go away.

I ran into this on a used car, with 100K. When going over bumps, etc., it sounded as if there were something rolling around in the load space. Turns out that whoever did the pre-delivery prep to the first owner, didn't tighten the bolts. They're tight now, and the car is quiet.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
