Seek help for checking inconsistency on factory drawings. 444-544

Attention 444/445 and 544/210 owners;

Refer to this factory drawing.

Please check the "Clamp Screw" (4) on the "Brake Pedal, lower section" (2) on your LHD vehicles, to see if it is installed as drawn, (from the outside of vehicle toward centerline), or as we* have actually found it installed on several vehicles (from the centerline of vehicle outwards).

Please let us know what you find.

* The Brake Light Switch Upgrade Design Team thanks you!

Cheers

My 61 210 is also opposite to the drawing, with the bolt head on the inboard side of the pedal.

Like John, mine's the other way around.

Note: all PVs were LHD.

Mine is the other way 'round - with the bolt head on the engine side, not next to the frame spar.

Mine's head-to-engine, threads-outboard as well--because I turned it around. Works either way. Sounds like you're planning to mount the switch using that bolt? Should work nicely. You'd know better than me how much to worry about the switch's durability, but my only concern would be the pummeling it would take from the elements...
All best, Nate

Thanks to all responders!

Nate;

Since I didn't see a nut on the drawing, I was under the impression that the outboard side was threaded...so you statement of having "turned it around" makes me wonder how that would be possible if only the outboard side is threaded. Please explain.

Cheers

true! 444-544 1963

Hi Ron--well, the first problem with my last message is that I was picturing the clutch pedal arm in my head, not the brake--due to my own brake mods the brake pedal arm is bolted up against the floorboards and is strictly vestigial. However, the pedal shafts attach the same on both, and yes, the pedal arm is tapped...a PO must have stripped out the threads on my clutch as it has a nut!

Best of luck with the switch mod--Nate

Nate;

The oe threads may have been stripped out, OR, someone may have just installed a longer bolt through existing threads, and added an additional nut as a locking "jamnut". That design of clamp is quite secure, but considering that if the bolt were to loosen, there is no sort of plan "B", back-up security (without any sort of shape distortion from circular or a pin through the shaft) the PBUS(1) would be allowed to slip through the clap resulting in the total loss of brakes (!), I would be tempted to add one of these myself....or at the very least, to certainly Loctite the bolt. I wonder if anyone has ever had one of these bolts loosen, and lived to tell about it?

Cheers
