Rear End Ratio 1800 1973

Hi All

How easy (or difficult) is it to change the gear ratio in my rear end if I'm NOT a differential expert? I believe it is a Dana 30.

    Simmy,

Difficult, you can take a dif apart quite easy, and fit it together aswell. But when you are going to swap internal parts, forget it. First of all there are different internal sizes and stuff, you'll need lots of shims, rings, washers and stuff to get it absolutaly right. Dont do it. Its at least 50 times easier to just swap rear axles.

I've taken a dif apart a few times and changed some washers, see my (dutch) site for som pics: knutselsmurf.web1000.com klick on, Volvo Amazon, DR-84-37, Fase 3a.

    cheers, Ben

Its not a doit your self project,a lot of measurements have to be taken to get it right, its easy to bolt in but hard to get it right, its easier to change the whole axle assembly. Dick
