Annoying squeaky clutch pedal and brake pedal 200

Both pedals squeak -- the clutch on the way down and the brake when I release it.

I have tried apply white lithium to no avail to both pedals -- on springs, on rods, on cables. Don't know where the squeaks are coming from.

Help !!!
The noice is very annoying...

Thanks.

Annoying squeaky clutch pedal and brake pedal 200

Hi...
I had the squeeky wheel on my old '82 Vo...I mean, you could hear my brakes 2 counties away...and with all the various things done, the only thing that stopped the noise was Italian break pads...sounds crazy, but any Italian brake pads worked regardless of brand...Italia is the name of one brand, I think.
If the greasing, and the teflon, and in my case a complete redo of the entire brake system back to genuine Volvo parts doesn't work (mine was even louder with the 'genuine Vo label' parts and I just hate brake noise even if they work fine), then simply try Italian brake pads...they don't cost so much as rotors, calipers, plus pads...and they really worked! I do believe they are not as long lived as some other brake pads...but who wants more squeeling miles?
Hey, the Italians make great shoes, why not brake "shoes"!!!
good luck

About every 5 years or so it seems, I too get a bad case of the "squeekies" on the clutch. A few drops of oil on the cable to pedal top pivot does the trick every time.

I have tried to lube with conventional oil, I have used both grease and white lithium. Grease on the bushings and lithium on the cable. But could'nt eliminate the squeak... so I gave up and finally blasted some WD40 and n,o more squeak ! Problem is that the sueak will come back sooner...

I still have my sueqk in the brake pedal, even after the WD40 blast. It's faint though, so I can live with that for now.

The noise (not noice) is probably coming from the cables. Get a flashlight and smear some lithium grease or spray some WD40 or silicone lubricant where the cables come out behind the pedals. I doubt it's the pedals themselves that would be causing the squeak. Also spray the other ends of the cables where they come out on the throttle body and the clutch.

The accelerator pedal is actually the only one not squeaking... I did spray some oil where the cable comes out in the throttle body, that's maybe why.

I'll try to get the cable of the clutch where it comes out under the car. I did go with a flash light under my dash and tryed spraying some white litium there.

I think I will try taking out the rod and lubing it with grease next time as Julio suggested. With toothpick if needed !

Thanks for the support.

I doubt that white lithium will penetrate far into the cables, could be wrong about that though. You might try some of the cable lube sold at the motorcyle shops.

My noisy clutch cables had to be replaced. I've not had a noisy brake pedal but there is no cable there on mine. The pedal goes directly to the master cylindar and booster. In this case I think you are on the right trail looking at the pedal pivots.

Hi Jim,

Did you replace your clutch cable yourself?
What's involved there?

For the brake pedal, it's when I release the pedal that it squeaks. I have tried lubing the therods, pins, and even inside the rubber boot a bit. I'll try tonight putting grease with a toothpick after loosening the bolts on the rod to see if that helps.

The squeaks are just annoying for now, the car does brake and shift gear...

Yes, I replaced it myself. It wasn't technically hard, just crowded up under the dash. I found that the pin which connects the end of the cable to the pedal had nearly worn through. You need to route the new cable exactly where the old cable ran.

The hardest part was getting the cable connected to the clutch lever under the car. You need to adjust the cable to give the maximum slack or length and put some lubricant on the rubber block on the lever. I used PBlaster as a lube and I think I used a stout pair of long nose pliers to grab the ball on the end of the cable to pull it through. You'll see how it is when you get inder there.

The bolt that the brake and clutch pedal swing from have small plastic collars in the metal tube of each pedal. You could remove both pedals, clean out the metal tube which the bolt runs through, and then grease it up and re-install. I'm sure that would solve your squeak problem. Like I mentioned earlier I had then same clutch squeak about a month ago and I used some wheel bearing grease and a tooth pick and shoved some grease where the metal tube of each pedal meets the flat bracket of the pedal assembly. So far no noises from my end. Good Luck!

Sincerely,

I second Nick's approach. If the squeaks are driving you nuts, you have to disassemble the pedals, remove the shaft, and lube it. Use wheel bearing grease... white grease (lithium) just doesn't last (DAMHIK).
