intercooler badging 700

what's the deal with the intercooler badge on the 700 series. I have a 740 turbo with an intercooler but no intercooler badge. My ex-gf has a 760 turbo and it has the intercooler badge below the turbo badge. I've looked at other 740's i see on the road and it looks like the badge is only on older (pre-'90?) cars. I can't find anything about it anywhere.

When turbos were uncommon, intercoolers were even less common. So, at one time...it was a big deal to have an intercooled turbo and Volvo used it in their advertising. When other manufacturers were making water cooled turbos an engine option, they were all intercooled. That, and too many badges made the car look too busy. Oddly enough, I peeled it off the 765 for exactly that reason.

IIRC, 1990 was the last year they had the IC badge.

My '91 does not have one, though it does have the 740 Turbo.

Later 940's didn't even have the "turbo" emblem.
