The darn temp guage... 200

So, I decided that I would try to fix the temp guage this morning. I pulled it out of the dash, and took all of the grounding nuts that hold the gage on and sanded of any corrisive materal. I then proceeded to put it back togeather. On my first drive to day it did not work. on drives 2-5 it worked. On my last drive of the day it did not work. It seemed to work very well for most of the day today, but i wan't it to work all of the time. Is there any other contack that I can clean

Thanks and Happy Bricking.

You did not say, but I assume you also checked the wire/contact at the temperature sending unit located on the driver side of the engine block? Also, what is your gage doing? Nothing, or just off the wall readings? The latter would likely be attributed to the comp board, sending unit, or wire in between. If the gage does nothing, the gage itself could be the problem.

What year 240? If it has compensation board associated with the temperature gauge the best thing you can do is remove it and solder a jumper wire in place. The gauge will function properly- assuming the rest of the circuit is OK. The comp board is a source of trouble with the 86-93 cars (perhaps the 85 has it as well). IPD sells a kit for $15 or you can solder a wire in for free.
