Choke light 200 1983

Hey everyone
My idiot light for my choke isn't lighting up. When i got the car, it didn't work, then for like 3 weeks last year it worked, and hasn't worked since. Where abouts is the contact for this? I'm assuming just some corrosion somewhere? What should i clean?

The switch contact rubs against the top of the choke pull handle. When mine didn't work it turned out to be the bulb. But in your case it might be the switch. I haven't looked at it carefully.

    Love those SU's.

      Ya, it's carb.
That's why it worked last year, but it doesn't anymore. Any ideas?

if the bulb burned out, that's it. we don't get carbs in the us, sorry. all volvos have that in the cluster and people have asked before why it doesn't work in their injected car. that's easy, it's not supposed to. good luck, chuck.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? No carbs? Isn't that like, the Atkins diet or something? do they figure us canucks don't deserve FI in our DL's?!? Or maybe we're the only ones smart enough to keep an SU going ;)
Well at least OUR DL's have the nicer GL tail-lights. So i'm assuming you americans don't know where the switch that turns that light on is then? I'm pretty sure the bulb is still good, as it was intermittant for a few weeks then stopped.
          Any help is still appreciated.
(Sorry if i offended anyone, i have nothing against you yankees ;)

I think the US went to FI earlier than you did because of fuel mileage standards and pollution requirements. The last carbed car I owned which tried to meet these standards was an '83 Plymouth Reliant. My daughter had one of the last pre-FI Hondas, an '85 accord. It had a 3-barrel carb, a complex CVCC head, and about 40 miles of vacuum hosing under the hood connecting about 36.5 sensors and valves. What a nightmare to figure out!

            P.S. My '76 Dodge pick-up is carbed.

I'm pretty sure Holley's and Weber's were around in the U.S. after Volvo discontinued carbs in Canada for '85.

Our '87 Oldsmobile Customcruiser wagon had a carb. It also had
an oxygen sensor and computer that varied something (maybe bypass
airflow around the carb.) in order to make the mixture correct for
the catalytic converter. The dash even had a "check engine" light.
                .
Horrible car, that. The engine cracked a head at 70,000 miles, was
"repaired," and threw a rod less than 10,000 mi later. The car
didn't have a temperature gauge, only an idiot light... Surprisingly,
our '92 Caprice wagon - essentially the same car with a more
aerodynamic body - lasted 190,000 miles, after which somebody
stole it. AFAIK, it's still running today with 200,000+ miles on
                it.
                .
                -b.

yup, kinda like radio; all injection, all the time, since 1973. you are further north, but, when it comes to carbs on 240s, i'm in the dark here in fla. good luck, chuck.
