Our '87 Oldsmobile Customcruiser wagon had a carb. It also had
an oxygen sensor and computer that varied something (maybe bypass
airflow around the carb.) in order to make the mixture correct for
the catalytic converter. The dash even had a "check engine" light.
.
Horrible car, that. The engine cracked a head at 70,000 miles, was
"repaired," and threw a rod less than 10,000 mi later. The car
didn't have a temperature gauge, only an idiot light... Surprisingly,
our '92 Caprice wagon - essentially the same car with a more
aerodynamic body - lasted 190,000 miles, after which somebody
stole it. AFAIK, it's still running today with 200,000+ miles on
it.
