A Coulple more stereo install questions

I'm looking at my new stero that I'm about to install in my ,88 240. I have taken my old aftermarket am fm cassete out and noticed that when this was installed the plug that went into the oe radio was cut off then the after market wireing harness was installed. I thinking of I could do one of two things, I could go to a junkyard and cut the plug off another 240 and soder or spice it into mine, and then use the conversion kit. I could also cut the plug off the after market harness that is in their now and connect the wires to my stereo that way. I plan on keeping my 240 forever, I'm 19, and I have noticed that a lot of steros don't seem to last very long. I want to make sure that I don't end of loosing all of my wiring as the years go by and stereos are being replaced.

Also, there is a yellow wire that I'm supposed to connect to the battery, as it is the memory . I noticed that my other stero had a memory that worked, could I just spice the yellow wire into the memory wire on my harness?

Where should I ground me stero?

Thanks and happy bricking

A Coulple more stereo install questions

i ran into the same thing on one of my volvos. i got a metra 71-1770 and wired it into the car and a metra 70-1770 to wire to the stereo. these are standard ford parts available lots of places.

http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-1770

the yellow wire connects to any +12 that is always on (ie: clock ). ground wire to metal frame of dash or firewall. the thing to pay attn to is the depth of the radio, i installed a 400w unit with a large heat sink at the rear end of the unit that is real close the heater core.
pull the speaker grill in the dash and check for clearance and also windshield wiper linkage that can saw thru the wires
