Does anyone know where 165/15's are made anymore, I keep getting the 'what do you want those for'? at the tire shops I call.

Nokia (yes, that Nokia) makes them in snow tread--not sure about highway tread. If you're in the PNW, Les Schwab has them.

I believe that's Nokian... also Finnish, but not the cell phone outfit. Their snows are supposed to work pretty well on dry pavement too, from what I've heard.

I agree. Any tire shop that questions you should be avoided.

Try a Firestone store. Firestone owns a sub-brand called Dayton. The Dayton Daytona Metric Radial is available in 165-15 still.

Any tire shop that questions your judgement in a tire size that is stock for your car is a tire shop I wouldn't be spending my money at. There are lots and lots of manufacturers that still make 'em and any reputable tire shop should have some on hand, or at least be able to get a set within a day or two.

If you're after snow tires, look into Hankook tires. I've got their studded snows all around on my 145, and they seem great.

Yes, I got a set at Pep Boys. They happen to be the standard size for the original VW bug, so there was a huge demand for many years. Even if they're not made, I'm sure there's warehouses full of them somewhwere.

    Hi TJ,

There's a dutch company (Vredestein) that was still making them a couple of years ago ("Sprint ST+"). I put a set on my old 914 and they're quite good considering their size. Kelly also made a tire called "Metric Radial" (not sure if they still do)--should be available through Goodyear outlets. Pirelli also made one (P3 or P3000?), as did Michelin (XZX). The Michelins gave extremely long wear, but were hard as rocks and absolutely treacherous in the wet.

You may want to check with TireRack (is Eurotire still out there?).

    Hope this helps!

    Steve A-
