Smith Volvo Tach 140-160

The 1972 142E I just bought a couple of weeks ago has the dash tach shown below. However, when I look at pictures of other 140s, I don't see the dash tach. Was this a dealer option or something? It's pretty cool, and seems to be on a ball and socket mount as it is very manuevable.

Thanks,
Justin

That's a 140 series accessory tach that was usually a dealer installed option. The 123GT tachs are very similar but instead of silver paint around the lens, the GT version is chrome. Some of the GT tachs went to 7000rpms, as the one in your pic should, and others went to 8000.

The bases are different as well - 140 tachs perch atop the domed piece you have, GT tachs have a different pedestal.

Best,

I have one on my desk here at work that I just got via evilBay. I'm going to try to wire it up tonight. It's missing its mounting doodads. But hey, it was only $30

might be from a 123GT. The 142 GT dash panel has a tach but not like that.
