Another M47 question; output shaft seal? 200 1992

Anyone have any experience replacing the output shaft seal on an M47? I ask, because it looks intimidating. Vehicle in question is a '92 245, and the output shaft "flares" to a large diameter immediately aft of the seal. Thus, even if the three-pronged flange (which bolts up to the rubber "donut" at the front of the driveshaft) were removed (with a puller, no doubt), the seal still isn't going to slide over the shaft and into the recess at the rear of the tranny. Help? Please?

Another M47 question; output shaft seal? 200 1992

Turns out that mgarageu was correct and I was full of anti-seize compound - or at least not very observant.

After a liberal application of degreaser and P'Blaster, the three-pronged flange on the end of the output shaft was actually found to consist of two pieces, one being a sort of "cap" on the end. I was able to pry this cap off, to find that the "flared" part of the output shaft is hollow, and several inches down inside there was the nut that mgarageu was referring to. Looks like at least about a 21 or 22mm nut; haven't attempted to remove it yet, but now at least I know IT'S THERE!

Nope, not on this tranny! I removed the rubber joint. No nut behind it; the flange appears to be pressed onto the output shaft. And even were I to get it off using a puller, the shaft itself is "flared" to a larger diameter than the seal just aft of the seal housing.

      Any other takers?
