Non Volvo old car auto transmission question. Big American iron. 140-160

Sorry for the off-topic post.. but I thought someone might have some recommendations here.

Last fall I bought from a neighbor another silly car... a 1960 Cadillacwith fins in need of a water pump. I finally got to the water pump yesterday and it no longer leaks a gallon of antifreeze/hour, so the next issue is the transmission. It slips. A lot.

The car had sat for a couple years before I bought it, and the seller said the tranny was fine when he quit driving it for the water pump problems. He's a good mechanic and recommended I try some magic fix it stuff... Trans-ex or something like that. Any other thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!
-Matt

The less it's driven with slippage, the less "hard" parts someone will have to hunt down for the old Hydra (also known as the "Jetaway" 315). Alto trans parts has a rebuild kit still listed for it. Lucky you.

that's a 4 speed 315 hydra matic. trans-x didn't help mine, doubt it will do it for you, too. too many clutches. needs a rebuild. good luck, chuck.

99% of the time, the problems with these transmissions after sitting are all coupled to hardended or dead seals. Try the product, but don't drive it even if it didn'thelp. You may be able to save the $ for a complete rebuild if you don't burn the disks out. Good luck

I tried trans-x at one point, and all the wierd noises my tranny made sounded subtly different after that. Shift feel was slightly altered. I don't know that I'd say either was improved, but the tranny still worked when I upgraded to a stouter model.
