Anyway to modify the rear windows so they can be lowered all the way? 200 1980

Is there anyway I can get the rear windows in my '80 245 to go down all the way like the front windows? Maybe put a window regulator from front door in the back? Or is that even possible?

I've got manual windows, by the way.

Thanks as always.

Can't be done -- compare the front and rear doors along the bottom! 200 1980

The reason that the rear windows don't go down as far is that there is no place for them to be lowered as far as in the front. The curve, permitting space for the rear wheel well, is too high -- the window can only drop down until it reaches the high point of that curve.
There was no other reason why Volvo wouldn't have made it so that the window lowers all the way.
Regards,

This is not about Volvos, but a few GM cars actually had stops
in the doors to prevent the rear windows from lowering more than
1/3 of the way down so that kids couldn't fall out. Stupid idea.
I remember ripping open the doors of our old Caprice to remove
the stops, to make the windows able to lower 2/3 of the way. My
friend had an older Malibu(?) where the rear windows were _sealed_
_shut_ - the only windows that could be opened in back were small
vent wings around 4" long that would tilt open. Amusingly enough,
they were power-operated.
.
I must say that I like the 740's setup a bit more (there's a small
fixed window behind the movable rear window so that the movable
window can be short enough to lower enough to clear the wheel well).

I'm almost sure the regs can be swapped front & back. (I don't think donor year matters either (?)

Does this "condition" hold true for both sides? And your '76 too? Why would a wagon have this feature and not a sedan, I wonder?

The windows CAN'T go all the way down. Note the cutout for the rear wheelwell in the door.

Where would they go down to??

Are you sure? From the beltline down, a 244 and 245 look identical, and my sedan's rear windows go down fine...

Your rear windows roll down all of the way??? Both my 244 & 245 rear door glass stick up a few inches when rolled down.
