Hey everyone
I got new gauges from the wrecker yesterday, but wasn't able to get the sending units for the oil temp and pressure. Anyone know part numbers for these? Is there any way to distinguish the differences for the sender from the idiot light engines compared to the gauges? By any off chance, does anyone have one sitting on a shelf somewhere? Any help is great!

K, i went and picked up the senders. I believe the temp sender is correct, but i'm pretty sure the pressure one is wrong. I bought it anyways, but i can return it when i find out it's wrong. Does anyone have the part number for the sender that runs the light AND gauge? I have access to both the 3 bar and 5 bar gauge. What's the difference? same sender? Which one should i use?
Thanks guys!!! ALL help is appreciated right now!!

Do you have the 3 bar or 5 bar oil pressure gauge? There are different senders for each.

no that one wont run the oil pressure. on ebay b.c. mcgregor usually has one for sale. the oil pressure gauge from the old 240 turbos needs a bushing to fit into my b230 motors. i got the bushings from a place that makes hoses for heavy equiptment for like two bucks.

If you have a B230 engine ('85-'93), read the following post for information and a cheap adapter for fitting a stock Oil Volvo Pressure Gauge Sender to a B230 engine block (14 X 1.5mm to 1/8" NPT). The SunPro CP7573 kit has the adapter you need for about $5 at your local autoparts store.

The oil pan plug is a 3/4-16 thread, same as the oil filter. So take a filter to the place where they claim to have the proper temp sender and ensure that the sender threads in there smoothly. I've been "sold" pan plug senders that were the exact correct part according to the vendor's catalog - but didn't fit.

LAST question. I promise!!!!
I've got the oil TEMP under control i believe, but where is the pressure sender located? I think i'm gonna try to tackle all this within a day or two, its kinda hard though when i work 'til it's dark, and don't have a garage :(
Thanks for all the help everyone!!!!!

Passangers side of the block next to the oil filter. It is a round-like shape with one post at the top of it. The one you need for the gauge and the light is basically the same sender but it has two posts to run both features. Good Luck!

Just called the dealer.
Apparently the one i'm getting "only controls the gauge." Is this total BS?
Anyone have a part number for the dual post one? or is it just a mythical creature? Is there anyway that the one i have now for my light will work for my gauge??
Help!!!

Here is a link to a sender that might fit your engine. I know that this sender is out there you just have to keep looking. The sender in this link looks just like the sender your looking for or maybe even is the sender your looking for. Good Luck!

Called one dealer, said you couldnt get them.
Called another, and they have both them in stock!
$26.52 for the pressure sender (cdn dollars) and $39.13 for the temp.
Part numbers are #1606877 for the pressure, and #1307535 for the temp. I trust him on the pressure, but can anyone verify that part number for the temp?
Also, the temp sender is in the drain plug, correct? I just changed my oil like, last week. Any secrets to changing plugs without losing all my oil?

While working at JIFFY LUBE many years ago I would attached the vacuum hose to the oil filler opening while the other tech would swap out the drain plug. I would basically cup the vacuum tube which would be right over the oil filler opening with my hand and turn the vacuum on. The suction would keep the oil suspended enought that only a few drops fell out of the drain of the pan while swapping out the drain plugs. I'm sure DAVESHANS method would work just as great but I just though I'd share a part exp. with you. I would not of believed that vacuum trick would work if I had not done it myself. Good Luck!
Sincerely,

1606877 is the oil pressure switch for the light on the dash. it will not run a gauge. and so it goes, chuck.

Those are great prices, grab them. The temp sender is the same size as a drain plug, if it doesn't look right make sure he will take it back. As to changing plugs without loosing too much oil. Jack the front up, use jackstands, unscrew the plug pushing up on it till it's completely loose, with the new plug in one hand and the other hand pushing up on the old plug, switch them quickly and thread the new one in. I did that on one of my cars and only lost a couple of ounces, not even enough to show on the dipstick. Put a rag on the ground to catch the spillage.

The oil pressure sender is available at egauges.com, I'm at work right now and don't have the part number handy. It's a 1/8" NPT thread dual terminal sender 0-80psi. The temp sender is not available aftermarket, it was made expecially for Volvo and VDO does not sell them. I have drilled a couple of drain plugs and tapped them to fit a 1/8" VDO oil temp sender also from egauges. If you do this be sure to recess the head of the sender into the plug by making a shallow pass with a 3/4" drill on the head end and I think I used a 9/16" on the other end. This will expose more of the sensor's tip to the hot oil and give you a truer reading.
Good luck.

Would i need the "standard ground" or "floating ground"?
http://www.egauges.com/vdo_send.asp?Sender=80PSI_5Bar_VDO&Cart=
part #362-033 or #362-001???
Do you have any pictures by any chance of your make shift temp sender??
Thanks alot!!

Neither, those are both single terminal senders you need the one that has a warning contact for the light. Part number 360 009, the one you found at the dealer is cheaper however (wow, how often do you get to say that!!!)
Here is a couple of pics of the sensor I made up.

Is "Oil pressure switch" what i need to make the oil pressure gauge work?

Haha, i'm answering all my own questions here.
It says right below it, not for cars with oil pressure gauge.....
I'll just continue to talk to myself here....
