Hello,
There's a little rule about getting more power out of an engine doesn't matter if it's on your lawn mower or your favourite brick. The more gas and air you can cram in there, the better it gets. Essentially what a VX cam does is open the opportunity for more air flow. The better the air flow, the more fuel and hence the more power. WHEN YOU USE IT!!!
Take it only as a suggestion, but this is what I would do, and because it has worked for the past 100,000 km in my 245. Vx cam. K&N air filter on one side, 240 Turbo exhaust on the other. Stock cam timing setting. Forget about the adjustable gear.
Results? Way better throttle response. No more noise except when above 3000 RPM. At that mark the near 400,000 km car has better get up and go than my old non-intercooled turbo 244 (100,000 km at the time)used to have.
Volvo's are notoriously under cammed unless you are lucky enough to own a K-cammed specimen. BTW - No effect on fuel economy, so long as I behave myself :-)))))
