well my '87 245 is finally starting to act its age. it seems that new problems pop up every other day, and they're starting to do a real number on my parents' wallet as well as mine (we split the expenses right down the middle). just last week a new alternator and new power steering rack cost a little more than half of what the kelly blue book value is. my parents are thinking that it might be time to let it go, and as much as i hate to admit it, i agree. ive been keeping my eye open for a 240 throughout the sacramento area, but no luck so far. no such luck with any of used car websites like cars.com or carmax.com, or any website for that matter. im really reluctant to go the ebay route because both my parents and i have heard a few negative things about fraud and whatnot. if there is anything i should do instead of or in addition to watching the used car lots in the area, or if anyone knows of a late 240 sedan in the greater sacramento area, please let me know. thanks in advance.

    The other day in Chico there was a 1980 242 GT for sale. It has been in one family it's entire life most recently driven by college age daugther. The girl drove the car hot recently and warped the head so Dad took it to James Thomas Volvo in Chico for repair. Engine has new top end, wiring harness, muffler, new AC compressor with new refrgerant and tires. Sometime in the recent past it has been painted blue and they changed the interior to blue also. He also has some extra parts including a M46 and OD. The car has about 200K total miles and is the best looking 242 GT in Chico. The guy has spent about $3500 bucks in the recent past on this car and is asking $3995. If I had the money I would buy it but I already have a 242 GT. My only comment about the current owner is he put stuff like Gabriel shocks and Midas mufflers in his car while most folks on this board go for the higher quality equipment.The ad ran for a week in the paper(www.chicoer.com) and I was the only caller so I think it is still for sale. I will get the phone number and post it when I get to work.

    You've probably have checked this out already, but Friday's "Sacramento Bee" is the car issue and that's the day the maximum No. of car classifieds appear. I've noted there are at least a couple of late 240's in there each week. You could also try contacting a salesperson at Turner Volvo and asking them about used lots specializing in Volvos. They're pretty good folks at Turner...as car salespersons go. :)

      i know of a 240 in davis that i saw on the way to school this morning. its '89 i think. i dont know how many miles it had, forgot to check. good looking interior, almost everything works, $1400. the reason i didnt buy it was i didnt want the big "bug-eye" headlights. everything after 85 on the 240s have the really annoying headlights, i like the old kind better. they just look nicer. its on that one steet, yeah, sorry about the lack of discription man.
