transmission leak woes 200 1987

Hello everyone,

I have an 87'240 w/ an M-47 transmission. I recently replaced the tranny fluid with Redline's MTL. The first week the transmission shifted like a charm, really an unbelievable difference. Gradually, though, over a period of two to three weeks the shifting has returned to pre-fluid change shifting: a lot of hesitation, some slipping, and lossed torque. Would insufficient fluid i.e. a leak cause this? I ask because when I replaced the fluid I noticed some fluid forward of the bell housing, although I've not seen any fluid under the car when parked for a while. Also, I recently had the clutch replaced by a local mechanic, is it possible that poor craftsmanship could to blame? Should I return the car to the mechanic and let them investigate?

If you're getting slipping, it's the clutch, not the transmission. It sounds like you have a leak getting oil on the clutch. If that's the case, you'll have to drop the transmission and replace the bad seal and the clutch disc.
