turbo seals question 200 1985

i checked the turbine wheel for excessive play, found none.possible to have bad seals but no play? could a howl or whistle come from a cracked compressor or a cracked exhaust manifold or could air get through the seals and make the whistle? Any help is hugely appreciated. Need to get the brick on the road.thank you in advance.

The three previous post are good advice. maybe a small pin hole somewhere. Possible cracked turbine ? How many miles ?

    turbo seals question 200 1985

Howl and whistle ? If howl doesn't have a metalic grinding sound and there is minimal shaft play, check all hoses for air leaks. Some think turbos should have a wind up whistle, however that usually means there is an air leak some where.

I'd start by making sure all connections were tight and firm. Then I'd check for pin holes in the hoses. A bit time consuming, but worth it.

As posted, if your not losing oil or seeing it in your exhaust, the seals should be fine.

The symptom of bad seals is excessive oil consumption. If you're not burning oil, I would think the seals are fine.
