Throttle Body Cleaned, Car STILL runs rough 200 1980

For my B21F engine, I followed the FAQs. My car has had a rough idle for the two years that I have owned it. My timing and idle speed are fine. Last week, I cleaned a dirty throttle body and fixed vacuum leaks. The car still idles rough, defined as shaking at rest. What next?

If you haven't used a fuel additive, try one. Costs next to nothing, cannot do any harm, may help you more than you think.

I recommend AMSOIL PI, used at 6 oz per ten gallons in a full tank (put PI in first, then fuel to let it mix more rapidly). Costs about $8 for a 16 oz bottle.
another excellent product is BG-44K. Use can in tank of gas, about $20.

Or find Techron and use it.

I second the use of Techron.

It's really made a difference in my 1980 245 DL.

how's the ignition? any bad wires or plugs? what about dripping injectors? kjet cars over 100k really respond well to new injectors, holders and seals. the intake and pcv design on the 76-80 cars meant the throttle body didn't suffer from the same conditions on the 81-up, especially the lh cars. good luck, chuck.

so, they're clean, that doesn't mean they aren't weak and opening at a lower psi or the seats are worn and they drip. if they were replaced a while ago and
cleaned recently, i'll let you off the hook. if those are the original 1s, replace them, they are worn out. bosch told me a long time ago, i don't care whose car-bmw, mb, saab or volvo-or how often they are cleaned, they are still metal parts and metal wears down. i've done it to all my cars and quite a few others.

what else, how old are the plugs? what are they? wires, cap, rotor? maybe the compression is low on 1 cylinder? check the valve adjustment? is the co set right? does it have egr? or an o2 sensor? 80s came either way. lotsa ways to go. good luck, chuck.
