another stupid fuel injection question 700

Ok folks, this one may be my most ignorant question yet.

While taking out the injectors to see why one was leaking, I noticed the following:

There were no little plastic caps on the injectors, like what is shown in every injector picture I've seen. What do these little caps do, and should they be installed? I know that they are in the replacement o-ring kit.

Wouldn't a plastic cap melt in the engine?

As far as I know the Regina injectors do not use a plastic cap. The o-ring kit that you have is for Bosch injectors. The seals are the same. Just use the seals and give the rest of the kits to someone with a Bosch injected car.
For what it's worth, I run Bosch injectors on my 1989 740 that has Regina injection electronics on it. Works fine so far (10K miles) since I put them in.
The computer doesn't know what injectors are in it. Good luck, rcs
