Solution to Stalling 200 1987

Over the summer I had problems with stalling in my 87 240 DL. I tried a bunch of things to fix it. My fuel pump relay was good, I put in injector cleaner, checked the plugs, nothing. It was still stalling when I came to stop, it would start right back up 99% of the time, but it was annoying/dangerous nonetheless. Finally, at the suggestion of a Brickboatd.com member, I checked the fuel pressure regulator (pull off vacuum hose and smell for gas), sure enough, I smelled gas, and replaced the FPR. This is about a $40 part and solved the problem, it hasn't stalled since except in extreme cold just after startup. I hope my experiences help some people out there with this problem.

    Solution to Stalling 200 1987

Hi, great timing with your advice, my car has been doing the same thing. When I pulled the vacuum line, I definately smelled fuel, so this means the fuel pressure regularor needs to be replaced, right? Any advice for doing the actual replacement? I have the Bentley manual, and it looks pretty straight forward. Thanks!

It's a very easy replacement. Just be prepared for gas to pour out of the fuel rail above when you unscrew it. It's very straightforward though, jsut unscrew what needs to be unscrewed and replace it. Hope it works.
