no clearance at tranny cross member- Any ideas 200 1990

Hi,
I put new motor and tranny mounts on my "new" 1990 240 a couple of weeks back and since have been fighting exhaust noise problems. The header pipe is either touching or almost touching the transmission cross member. My other 240 has between .5 and 1 inches of clearance there. It didn't do it before the new mounts- my theory is that the old ones had enough sag to let them work. I've adjusted the header pipe bracket down as much as I can- there is still a little adjustment space but I just can't get it there. Best I can tell the muffler system is straight. I found some old posts about getting the uniframe bent by using the mount bolts as a jacking point, but they don't seem to be pushed in and I don't think I have driveline problems.

Any ideas? I used the mounts from FCP Groton. Could the tranny mount be too thick or something. Would it be okay for me to pull the 1/4" spacers? I think that would help some.

Thanks for the help. This is getting OLD.
Lyle

Try readjusting exhaust system from the back. Start by adjusting the rear muffler so the exhaust pipe (under body by drive shaft) lowers the .5-1" that you need. You may have to play with the center muffler (the one held in place with the rubber doughnuts) as well. Solved the same problem I had for the same reason. I doubt that anything major is bent.
