Leak at thermostat 700

So, I had a leak at the thermostat. Thought I took care of it this weekend by installing a new thermostat with gasket and cleaned both surfaces. Today I took a look and it is still leaking! What's up? Can I make a gasket to seal the area where the intake side of the engine meets the metal part that holds the thermostat? Any suggestions would be appreciative. It is quite a little stream of coolant coming out...

Best Regards,

Anastasia

I've had tstat leaks several times. A light coat of RTV will solve the problem. Although its not called for in this application...IT WORKS. No problems when you replace the tstat again except the cleanup is a bit more involved.
Good Luck.

The rubber o-ring should seal this, unless it is pitted with corrosion. If it is, clean off the aluminum with fine sandpaper and fill any pits with silicone RTV.

I did use some fine sandpaper on both sufaces tonight. Cleaned surface again, installed thermostat and it still leaked. I didn't try to use any silicone RTV. I will try it again tomorrow.

Thank you!

As cast aluminum ages, it becomes more porus, and will eventualy leak through the housing. you may want to inspect for that , cracks, or warpage of the flange surface.

I was affraid of that. Just in the sense that I am in PA right now and have a difficult time finding part around here. NH and Maine are overflowing with Volvo's in the scrap yards compaired to PA.

Thank You!
