Turn signals and back up lights 200 1991

Replaced my front pads last weekend . Drove up to hike the AT and all of a sudden my turn signal fuse keeps blowinga nd noticed my back up lights were sticking on so I fooled around with shiter in and out of gear, then popped clutch once and they went off. Turn signals then worked until I got to work, (32 miles). Welllll, they dont work now! I am thinking it might be a sticking back up light switch at tranny but I need to check it out. I have found that if one looks at events leading up to failure they might lend some insight into the failure. OK, I stuck my hydraulic rolling jack under the middle of the front end to lift car and do brakes. could that have crimped the harness? anyone out there know of these events ? I was reading a thread that was heading in that similar direction but now I cant find it. did i pull a Tim the Tool man and screw it up ?

Also, I need to repalce my front seat. It was slightly bent and loose when I bought car. Any ideas? I am not a small guy and it sure screws up my back.

You, uh, didn't put the jack under the oil pan, didya?
I could see if you did that, you probably tore the transmission mount, and shoved the trans up into the tunnel, dmaging the linkage and/or wiring for reverse switch.

An unrelated thing that could take out the turn signal fuse... the seat heaters are on this circuit. I've had problems with a car iwth a broken console and loose seat heater switches, shorts out the circuit and blows the fuse.

Come to think of it, that could be from the Part 2 of your question- if the seat's really shot, the seat heater wires might be damaged or crunched.

I'd try to find a good passenger seat, and combine the 2 to make one good driver's seat. I've flip-flopped controls and basically put my driver's seat covers over a passenger seat before. You can do it all in the comfort of your living room.

Have fun!

Ill lookinto the seat issue, I dont think I am dumb enough to put jack under oil pan, but I have screwed up things in the past, Actually I put jack under a cross bar near front of car. Forward of front wheels. The circuit stayed viable until I reached my office this morning It has got to be something rubbing or crimped. nothing like an intermitent wire issue to ruin my day.
