brake caliper bleed screw 200

hi,

i was attempting to bleed my brakes yesterday and i either did something wrong or found the problem for why my brakes don't work.

i was checking the brake caliper bleeder screw on the front left when i discovered that the screw was acting like it was threaded. the thing turned and would not tighten or would not loosen all the way out for me to get a replacement. so i think i need a new caliper bleed screw +/- a rebored thread on the caliper ($15 aussie dollars). my question is has anybody had this happen to them before and if so what path did they take - 1) remove screw - how? 2) remove caliper - then replace caliper?

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks,
chez

I used a bleeder repair kit from NAPA. Had to tap new threads in the caliper. Has been working fine for over a year. Cheap!

It can't be retapped: buy a rebuilt caliper.

"...acting like it was threaded.." - ??? It *is* threaded - but it sounds like the thread is stripped. I wouldn't screw with it (unintentional pun) and would just get a rebuilt caliper.

i just went to the yard and got a caliper off a 244gl 1979 with vented front rotors and girling calipers - same setup as my 1981. i took the bleed screw off that and it went in the old one fine and allowed me to bleed the brakes. i was considering replacing the whole caliper but this took 1 minute. i noticed the numbers on the calipers were different, they look exactly the same - fittings etc - would they be interchangeable for the future?

thanks,
chez
