Are all RWD front swaybars the same? 200

I was looking for Turbo or IPD swaybars on EBay, and I came across
these two auctions claiming that 240, 740, and 940 front swaybars
were the same. Is this actually true, or does the seller need to be
clued? The auction numbers are:
2466063528 and 2466060976
.
To be fair, he does say, "please check your fit and application
before bidding," so he isn't trying to be slimey.

I know the sizes are different, but is the fit the same between
the 240 and 740/940?

Hey, Bo, you ask about sway bars fitting between 200 and 700/900.

NO. Never. Not a bit.

While the 200 and 700/900 lines DO share:
- almost all engine pieces
- those wonderful Bosch pieces: relays, etc.
- AWxx transmissions
- Mxx transmissions
- biodegradable wiring in the mid-1980s ;-)
- ...

The 700/900 are SEVERAL inches wider, SO these kinds of things will not swap:
- seats (later are wider)
- sway bars (suspensions differ in both style and width)
- rear ends/axles
- glass (besides being different style or shape)
- more, I suppose

Yes, the suspension designs are different, but bend formations and width wise, the stock front bar from my 245 and the turbo bar from my 745 looked pretty close.

I'll try digging them out from the scrap pile later to see ...

-- Kane ... upgraded to turbo bars on my 245, to iPd's on my 745.

not positive but the Fit is the same. That is to say they will line up and bolt in across the board BUT the thicknesses of the bar vary. So your E-bay guy needs a little more of an education

Different for turbo's, which are larger (forget MM), have been told that sedans are smaller than wagons. Diesel engine Bricks, I've been told, are also larger than sedans. Years back, I purchased bushings for my 242 (turbo) and was given 3 different sizes by my local Volvo dealer. However, he could only get one size from Volvo....the small of the three. Go figure.

No, no the 240 wagon rear is smaller than the sedan rear, including turbos. Front is the same. 23 mm front, 21 mm rear 24xT sedan. Same for 80 242GT and the non-turbo GLT.

240 Swaybar sizes, (Front & Rear, Sedan & Wagon). 200

Here's a post that lists all the 240 stock Sedan and Wagon swaybars. Note, this does not include the GTs (see John Sargent's post for that info), and I believe the '75 240 did not have any rear bar at all.

My '75 245 has a rear bar. My '75 242 does not. The wagon potentially has the rear bar added later, of course.

Also of note... the 240/260 diesel models have a unique bar, with a dropped center. Very popular with the V8 swap crowd. I have one, just in case anyone ever needs one.

The early 242 GTs had different sway bars:

1978: 21/18
1979: 21/23
1980: 23/21, just like the 244T's.
