Identifying Top-Quality Control Arm Bushings 200 1981

1981 242 non-Turbo: I'm planning to do control arm bushings soon. Any tips at all would be appreciated. Also, how do I verify that the new bushings are really Boge or Volvo? In this modern world of auto parts, markings identifying the brand name are not always on the parts. I've heard of numbers being ground off, melted off the rubber, etc. I want to be positive that I'm putting in top-quality bushings. Too much time and labor to waste on junk parts. Any ideas?

hi.....your original bushings were boge.....high quality item....you can buy either boge or volvo..same thing. Do not buy scantech, they will rot your mind, curve your spine, and lose the war for the allies..........that's as far as the rear ones go....those are critical....much stress at the rear bushings...the fronts, i'm not so sure it matters.........go with quality, just to make sure.

use lots of penetrant for a few days before the actual job......having access to a press is a good thing, but the rubber can be drilled out and then the sleeve knocked out...and the new bushing pressed in with a large bench vise....some folks take the arms and bushings to a machine shop and have it done for around $20...and make sure to torque the bolts with the weight of the car on the wheels..............good luck..........j.

Thanks. I've heard that sometimes suppliers sell Boge bushings, but with the word "Boge" removed. I was hoping there was some way for me to tell them apart. I'm inclined to make sure the ones I buy still say Boge or Volvo on them. The parts market is wild. When one considers the middlemen involved, I imagine sometimes the retail suppliers aren't even sure exactly what they are selling. Thanks for the tip.
