Parts book 140-160

I am rebuilding a 1971 142 I took it apart about three years ago and have made progress in getting it done. The front end is rebuilt new bushings front and rear, ipd sway bars front and back, new brakes, short shifter and overdrive installed. Now I am down to putting smaller pcs on my problem is I do not know where things go. When I rebuilt a 544 several years ago I was able to aquire a parts book and found it very helpful to see how things fit togather. So how could I get a parts book or manual for a 142? also I need gromets to portect heater hoses through the fire wall. Thanks for your help

I have had good luck looking at the internet book stores such as powells.com and amazon.com, you can usually find a chiltons or haynes manual cheap, and even the occasional factory books. Many even have a standing search option, you tell them what you want and they email you as soon as they find one.

p.s. check your local library, they may have one you can check out!

Soon, I hope, I fellow named Tadec will have a CD with everything printed about 140's and 164's, for sale. The CD he has done for the 1800's is excellent. Keep an eye on ebay, the brickboard or the yahoo 1800 group.

No affiliation, etc.

www.gcp.se is the official Volvo Genuine Classic Parts dealer. A but expensive, but they make parts off original tools. But the range is not complete either, which is why I buy from ScandCar.com.

Anyway, if you browse over to the GCP web site you will be able to view pages from the OEM parts manual. Now in Internet Explorer just right-click on the picture and "save target as" or "save picture as"... The images are in GIF format, and all image viewers and picture editors can view them. It takes a long time to go through all the pages, but is clearly worth it. It helps to have a download manager like GetRight where you can just copy and paste the ULR and then just edit the last digit of the URL, since the file naming convention is very obvious. Something like "Section_3_Page_42.gif". They have all the catalogues on-line for up to the '73 model 144. Hopefully the 240 will be added soon, but it not yet a classic. If the web site si down, this happens probably daily when it is probably midnight in Sweden. Just try again.

The alternative is to get one in CD or book form (can't remember which) from ScandCar.com.

I think Volvo of North America has them and dealers can order them.
You'll need a microfiche reader. The P/N shown on mine is 7777208-5
