Sometimes my 740 GLE gets a strange vibration as I'm tooling along... doesn't matter gear or speed... then the tach jumps up slightly while maintaining its' speed. I let off the gas, then it kinda "hiccups" a little and goes back to normal. It's also a bit sluggish just getting started in the lower gears. Took it to a Volvo shop, but of course he drove it like a bat outta hell (I don't) and couldn't find anything wrong with it. The engine is fine, and the clutch is new (less than a year). Could it be a driveshaft problem?

I've had a similar problem among others with my 91 740 wagon...

After cleaning the oil crud out of the throttle body, pcv and flame trap
the car runs much better... if the rpm's jump it may be a vacuum problem
or something in the fuel side...

If the tach is jumping this would lead me to believe there is a problem with the distributer, i had the same problem start before it got much worse of course and replacing the distributer helped, though you could probly check other item's before replacing this expensive item, normally youll get 200k+ off a distributer too.
